The best thing to do when my heart aches is to give something away. Two dear friends of mine and one close friend of a close friend (which might as well be my friend too) have each lost a parent in the past 5 days. Two out of the 3 lost parents were fathers. With Father’s Day in less than 2 weeks, the air feels heavy when I pray for these families.
What a gift our fathers are! I like to give meaningful gifts that honor people, help others, and celebrate the best of memories. Something changes in me when I give—that part of me struggling to be thankful, trying to comfort myself, that part finds a deeper well from which to draw strength and see God’s goodness.
Today I’m giving away this beautiful Men’s Fair Trade Friday box from my Mercy House friends because it feels wonderful to give. I wish I could send one to all of you! This gift gives five-, maybe six-fold because there is a winner/gift giver, father/gift receiver, and three to four artisans who receive a fair wage for their work. Ripple-effect gifts are the best!
To be entered, do 2 things between 4 p.m. Monday, June 8 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 9 (all times CST):
- Leave a comment below and tell me what you love about your father (or a father-figure/mentor) in your life.
- Subscribe to my blog.
Winner will be selected at random and will have 24 hours to respond to my email notification. I want this to get to you quickly in time for Father’s Day!
